As part of our goal to expand training opportunities for all clinicians in the OCD community, we are pleased to announce a new partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Psychiatry Academy to offer online courses for professionals interested in learning more about treating OCD.

“While OCD is a very treatable disorder, there continues to be a gap in accessing effective care by properly trained mental health professionals,” says Jeff Szymanski, PhD, executive director of the IOCDF.  “This partnership with the MGH Psychiatry Academy will have a significant impact in terms of training clinicians on the front lines.”

mgh-psychMGH Psychiatry Academy’s course offering complement the IOCDF’s existing Training Institute, offering introductory courses to help prepare clinicians for the comprehensive 3-day Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI). And the online courses allow professionals to access the trainings from anywhere at anytime that is convenient — the flexible course schedule lets you join the course at any time and complete assignments whenever your practice schedule allows. Content is fully accessible via desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet so you can participate from your home, office or anywhere else.

“Today’s announcement is an important step in our journey to disseminate treatments for individuals with OCD and related disorders, as many patients with OCD have difficulties accessing empirically-based therapies,” said Sabine Wilhelm, PhD, chief of Psychology and director of the OCD and Related Disorders Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. “The collaboration between the International OCD foundation and the MGH Psychiatry Academy fosters a greater distribution of high quality trainings in the treatment of OCD. Together, we can focus our combined energies on serving a broader range of passionate clinicians seeking to better serve those affected by OC spectrum disorders.”

This partnership kicks off today with the start of two new courses, and special offer for IOCDF Members:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

This online course is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills to broaden your practice, while also preparing you for the more comprehensive Behavior Therapy Training Institute. Whether you are a seasoned clinician who is just starting to treat OCD, or a trainee or recently licensed clinician just beginning your career, this course offers a solid foundation on which to build your OCD practice. Taught by IOCDF Scientific & Clinical Advisory Board Vice Chair, Dr. Sabine Wilhelm, along with Noah Berman, PhD, the CBT for OCD course will help you understand and identify clinical features of OCD and provides effective assessment and treatment to use with patients who have OCD. It also highlights how to apply cognitive-, behavioral-, and acceptance-based skills to treat the different OCD symptom subtypes.

I am a registered nurse, who would like to learn more and help people with OCD. I would like to help spread the word of much needed education to pediatricians. Can these classes be take by nurses?
