This interactive and informative workshop aims to provide participants with a solid understanding of anxiety and gives practical coping skills on how to manage and reduce anxiety. This workshop examines what anxiety means and broadens our understanding of the physiological, psychological and emotional components that anxiety brings. It will teach you skills so you can be the master of your anxiety instead of a slave to emotions and thoughts. Therefore, learning the difference between surviving anxiety and thriving with anxiety.
Scientific research has found that the most effective way in treating anxiety is through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This starts by identifying our anxious thoughts, developing awareness of the thinking style we possess as our thinking influences our beliefs about ourselves, others and the environment around us. Further examination will be given to anxious or unhelpful thoughts using a process called cognitive restructuring (thought challenging). Behaviour modification techniques will be explored to assist in changing unwanted behaviour such as avoidance of fearful situations. Relaxation exercises will be demonstrated to reduce anxiety using breathing techniques and progressive muscular relaxation. At the end of the workshop, you will have gained practical tips on how to thrive with anxiety in daily life, identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking, adapt unhelpful behaviour and use relaxation techniques to manage anxiety.
