OCD Jacksonville – New Directions in Exposure Therapy for OCD: Inhibitory Learning and ACT

OCD Jacksonville is proud to announce our fall conference, New Directions in Exposure Therapy for OCD: Inhibitory Learning and ACT. The event will be held at the Schultz Center on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 8am-5pm
Our Guest Speaker: Jonathan (Jon) Abramowitz is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Chapel hill, NC. He specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders, and is recognized internationally as a leading authority on these topics. He is also Professor and Associate Chair of Psychology at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, where he trains clinical psychologists and conducts research on OCD and other anxiety disorders. Dr. Abramowitz has written two self-help workbooks and published over 200 scientific articles, books, and book chapters for professionals.He is the former Director of the OCD/Anxiety Disorders Program at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Past-President of the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (ABCT).
Who Can Attend: This conference is especially suited for Licensed Psychologists, Mental Health Counselors, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Graduate Students.
What You Can Expect to Learn: This workshop will begin with a review of the basics of exposure therapy for OCD. We will next delve into the two major conceptual models of how exposure therapy works: (a) emotional processing and (b) inhibitory learning, and attendees will learn various clinical techniques for maximizing inhibitory learning during exposure. Following, we will turn to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and how OCD is conceptualized from within this therapeutic approach. The similarities and differences between ACT and exposure will be presented and attendees will learn various techniques for incorporating ACT with exposure and response prevention.
