OCD Awareness Week – Free Community Event (Walnut Creek, CA)

Hosted By: Rogers Behavioral Health, the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy (SFBACCT), and OCD San Francisco Bay Area, an affiliate of the IOCDF

Location: Rogers Behavioral Health,420 N. Wiget Lane, Bldg 2, Walnut Creek, CA
A series of brief educational talks and discussions will be offered for adults with OCD and their loved ones and for families with children or teens with OCD followed by larger group discussions with the speakers. Therapists are welcome too! The movie, “Unstuck,” will play each hour for viewing and activities will be available for children. Light breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided.
Speakers from Rogers include Jennifer Park, Ph.D., Rajan Gosain, M.D., and Yuhuan Xie, M.D. Speakers from the SFBACCT include Joan Davidson, Ph.D., Jonathan Barkin, Psy.D., and Daniela Owen, Ph.D.
Presentations and discussions for adults include:
-Understanding and accepting uncertainty underlying the content of obsessions
-Using creativity and compassion during ERP
-Overcoming pitfalls and maintaining long-term gains
-Helping spouses and loved ones.
Topics for parents and families include family accommodations, helping siblings, recognizing signs of OCD, and managing emotions triggered by OCD challenges. Psychiatrists will discuss the role of medications and the interplay between behavioral treatment and medication management.
