SUMMARY:Ballet Flats for Dinner - a comedic solo show on life with OCD
DESCRIPTION:What: Ballet Flats for Dinner\, a comedic solo show on life with OCD \nWhen: Wednesday 10/7 at 730 pm \nWhere: The Lyric Hyperion\, 2106 Hyperion Ave\, Los Angeles\, CA 90027 \nWhy: Finding humor in mental illness reduces stigma and lets people know they’re not alone \nAbout the show:\nUsing a mix of stand-up and storytelling\, Ballet Flats for Dinner tells the story of Bridget McGuire’s life growing up with intrusive thoughts with harm\, a form of OCD. From thinking she was pregnant at age 11\, to wondering if she killed her friend’s boyfriend at 25\, to finally getting help at the ripe old age of 38\, Ballet Flats will have you laughing the entire time and perhaps you’ll walk away wondering\, “Do I have OCD too?” (Don’t worry\, you probably don’t) \nReviews:\nFront Row Center – 90% (link HERE) \nActor Peter Hermann (Younger\, Law & Order: SVU) said\, “The first time I heard Bridget tell the Ballet Flats for Dinner story\, I howled with laughter. And cringed. And wanted more. Her show is a flat-out delight\, not only because wow\, it’s just so good to laugh\, but because of how light her touch is in sharing a part of her life that involves a good share of difficulty. Bridget is down-to-earth\, irreverent\, hugely generous with her honesty\, and just so dang funny. Five stars\, thumbs up\, like and subscribe\, would definitely see again etc!!!” \nGood Housekeeping Editor\, Eva Bleyer\, said\, “Moving\, relatable and wildly funny. You can feel how much heart she poured into it. I highly recommend seeing it” (Eva Bleyer\, Good Housekeeping editor). \nPatrick B McGrath\, Ph.D.\, Chief Clinical Officer\, for NOCD\, said\, “you will laugh\, you may cry\, and you will definitely be a better person after you see it. As someone who has treated OCD for over 25 years\, I can highly recommend this show as both an amazing piece of comedy as well as an excellent challenge to stigma and misinformation about OCD.” \nDr. Michael Wheaton\, Assistant Professor of Psychology\, Barnard College\, said “Bridget is a hilarious comedian and storyteller who expresses her personal experience in a way that really helps the audience to understand what it is like to have OCD and how treatment can help. She finds a way to turn the irrational nature of some OCD symptoms into an irreverent comedy show\, that is both deeply funny and touching.” \nAbout Bridget:\nBridget McGuire is a storyteller and stand-up comedian based in New York. Her self-deprecating and conversational humor revolves around her life: anxiety\, family\, and dating – all said in her hot Chicago accent. Bridget is a co-producer of All That Good Stuff\, a stand-up comedy show\, and performs all around New York City. Bridget has opened for Michael Palascak\, Pete Lee\, Janet Williams and Maggie Hughes DePalo. She works in media during the day and has written for Women’s Health and Prevention about her life with OCD\, for Brit + Co about relationships\, and Oprah Daily on writing. You can find her on Instagram.

SUMMARY:Building Courage & Community: BDD Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:This year\, we are proud to host our 6th International Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) Conference\, centred around the theme of Building Courage & Community through shared lived experience. \nOur conference is a unique opportunity to bring together the BDD community in a supportive\, hopeful\, and informative space. Individuals living with BDD\, loved ones\, clinicians\, researchers\, and mental health professionals come together to deepen understanding of the condition\, explore developments in treatment and recovery\, and hear inspiring stories from those with lived experience. \nThis year’s event places a particularly strong emphasis on the power of lived experience\, peer support\, and connection. Alongside our main stage talks\, we will be offering interactive workshops and support sessions designed to provide practical tools for recovery\, reduce isolation\, and help attendees build confidence and hope in moving forwards. \nBy creating opportunities for people to connect with others who truly understand\, we hope to foster a safe and empowering environment where attendees can take meaningful steps in their recovery journey and leave feeling less alone. \nThroughout the day\, attendees will hear from leading clinicians\, researchers\, advocates\, and members of the BDD community. Together\, these perspectives will offer a compassionate and balanced understanding of BDD\, combining clinical expertise with real-world lived experience. \nWorkshops and sessions will focus on practical strategies\, recovery-focused approaches\, and overcoming common challenges associated with BDD. Beyond the educational content\, the conference is also a space for comfort\, solidarity\, and connection. Many attendees tell us that simply being in a room with others who understand BDD can be an incredibly moving and hopeful experience.

SUMMARY:Reining in OCD at Mudflower Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join NECOA Boston at Mudflower Farm for a family-centered workshop that brings the SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) model out of the therapy room and into the pasture. Working in small groups alongside our equine partners\, parents and children will engage in structured groundwork exercises as a team in activities that mirror the core SPACE principles of reducing accommodation\, increasing warmth and validation\, and responding to distress with calm\, confident presence rather than reassurance-seeking or avoidance. Horses\, as highly attuned\, non-verbal mirrors of human anxiety and congruence\, offer families immediate\, embodied feedback: they give parents a vivid\, unique way to practice the very skills that help children with OCD make room for uncertainty and distress. Facilitated by NECOA clinicians alongside experienced equine specialists\, this playful yet purposeful activity translates evidence-based strategies into a memorable\, felt experience — because sometimes the best lessons in supportive parenting come not from a worksheet\, but from a perceptive\, empathic herd of 1\,200-pound teachers outstanding in their field.

They’ll explore what helps different emotions feel welcome and practice making space for all feelings\, even the uncomfortable ones\, with kindness and curiosity. \nWe’ll also connect this activity to OCD and how learning to make space for intrusive thoughts and the pull to engage in compulsions can help us respond to OCD in new ways.
