SUMMARY:Family and Loved One’s Online OCD Support Group! Free!
DESCRIPTION:Chris Trondsen\, LMFT\, a clinician with OCD\, and his mom\, Liz\, are excited to remind you about our September virtual\, free Family and Loved Ones OCD Support Group. To join\, simply email info@ocdsocal.org and ask to be on the mailing list for the Zoom link to this event and future groups. \nThe support group is held every second Saturday of the month. Our next group is Saturday\, September 12th\, from 11am to 1pm PT. Please read the information for the September 12th Family & Loved Ones’ OCD Support Group: \nFor the month of September\, we are excited to offer a special presentation with a panel of OCD experts. For the first part\, Chris Trondsen\, LMFT\, will be doing a presentation for family members\, loved ones\, spouses\, and siblings of someone with OCD titled\, “Expected Treatment Milestones of Your Loved One’s Therapy.” This presentation will focus on the major goals and milestones your loved one should reach during evidence-based treatment and when to expect them to be met. For instance\, after the first few sessions\, your loved one should understand what an obsession and compulsion are\, understand what is going on in their brain\, and be aware of the evidence-based treatments offered. As a supporter of someone in your life with OCD\, this will help you understand what your loved one is doing in therapy\, what goals they should be meeting in treatment and when\, give you a realistic timeline of recovery\, and what to do if you feel as if your loved one is not making progress. \nAfter that\, there has been a request to discuss common co-occurring disorders that many of your loved ones experience in addition to OCD that often makes treatment challenging. We’re splitting up these co-occurring disorders into three presentations; September 12th will be Part Two. \nAnthony Pinto\, PhD\, will discuss the intersection of OCD and obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). Many people confuse OCD and OCPD\, however\, they are entirely different disorders. OCPD features rigid thinking\, perfectionism\, preoccupation with order and details\, and it often makes it difficult for interpersonal relationships. \nSara Vicendese\, LMFT\, will discuss the intersection of OCD and bipolar disorder. There are unique challenges when experiencing both disorders\, including the medication prescribed and difficulties doing treatment in manic and depressive episodes. \nScott Granet\, who is an expert on both OCD and BDD\, and has written a book on both disorders\, will talk about how treatment is different for people with BDD than OCD\, as well as the high co-occurrence rates. \nFinally\, Erin Jones\, LCMHC\, will discuss OCD and anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders have the highest co-occurring rate with OCD at around 75 percent. Erin will discuss multiple anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)\, social anxiety (also known as social phobia)\, and more! \nEach individual will give a presentation where they will discuss the co-occurring disorder and how it differs from OCD\, how having both can make OCD more challenging to treat\, and how OCD treatment is modified to address these co-occurring disorders. This presentation will provide greater insight if your loved one has a diagnosis of one of these co-occurring disorders. If they don’t\, you may see that your loved one is actually also experiencing the co-occurring disorder but has never been diagnosed. \nThe presentations will be followed by a Q&A session with all five presenters. The presenters will address questions family members of loved ones have about OCD or these related disorders. You can ask questions about the specific topics brought up in group\, or general questions about your family’s experience with OCD. This group is perfect for family members\, loved ones\, spouses\, siblings\, or anybody supporting somebody with OCD to learn how to best support them\, as well as getting information on common co-occurring disorders that may be relevant to your situation. \nWe look forward to seeing you Saturday! To join\, simply email info@ocdsocal.org and ask to be on the mailing list for the Zoom link.\, as well as share this with people with OCD—or anyone else interested.

SUMMARY:Bewilderment (Why Me\, Why Now\, Why These Thoughts?)
DESCRIPTION:As part of our continuing Lecture Series\, we are honored to host a virtual Zoom event featuring a presentation by Sally Winston\, PsyD\, on Wednesday\, September 23\, 2026\, at 7:00 pm. \nDr. Winston will explore the topic of Bewilderment (Why Me\, Why Now\, Why These Thoughts?)\, the often-overlooked experience of not knowing what’s going on in our minds. She will discuss how this confusion fuels distress in OCD and anxiety\, why information (not reassurance) matters\, and how understanding the process can bring real relief. \nA pioneer in the field\, Dr. Winston is a clinical psychologist who has specialized in the treatment of anxiety disorders and OCD for five decades. She is the founder and executive director of the Anxiety and Stress Disorders Institute of Maryland\, located independently on the campus of Sheppard Pratt Hospital. She currently divides her time between Baltimore\, Vancouver\, BC\, and Morin Heights\, Quebec. She maintains a private practice and continues to guide ASDI. \nDr. Winston co-authored the following books with Dr. Martin Seif: What Every Therapist Needs to Know about Anxiety Disorders\, Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts\, Needing to Know For Sure\, and Overcoming Anticipatory Anxiety. \nHer website is anxietyandstress.com. \nWe invite you to register today for this exclusive presentation.

SUMMARY:Family and Loved Ones Online OCD Support Group! Free!
DESCRIPTION:Chris Trondsen\, LMFT\, a clinician with OCD\, and his mom\, Liz\, are excited to remind you about our October virtual\, free Family and Loved Ones OCD Support Group. To join this free\, virtual event\, simply email info@ocdsocal.org to be on the mailing list and receive the Zoom link! \nThe support group is held the second Saturday of every month. However\, Chris and Liz are involved in two upcoming OCD live events\, our next group is THIS Saturday\, October 3 from 11am to 1pm PT. \nThe topic and presentation for this Saturday’s support group is\, “Fostering Healthy Communication Between You and Your Loved One During Each Step of Recovery.” \nOften\, we hear in the group that it is difficult to communicate with your loved one on so many subjects: they refuse to see an OCD specialist\, they’re not sharing what’s happening in recovery\, or there are fights anytime you voice your concerns or ask questions. Chris Trondsen\, LMFT\, LPCC\, a clinician with OCD\, and his mom\, Liz will discuss the best way to communicate with your loved one at all stages of their OCD experience. They will be joined by Dr. Jennifer Siegel\, a psychiatrist who specializes in OCD. \nThe three of them will have a round table discussion about fostering healthy communication during the OCD process. They will discuss what happens at each stage of treatment\, both on the therapy side and the medication side\, what to expect as a family member\, and what your loved one should be learning at each of these stages. Then they will go on to express the importance of healthy communication during the process\, whether you are a parent\, family member\, loved one\, or spouse of somebody with OCD. \nThey will give tangible strategies on how to build a relationship that includes a willingness for your loved one to open up and share their recovery journey. Whether your loved one is in treatment or unwilling to go\, taking medication or refusing it\, this talk will help give you ideas on how to foster stronger communication between you and your loved one. \nYou’ll also learn what your loved ones should be doing at each stage of treatment from the therapy and medication side\, as well as what they should be learning and coming home and sharing. \nAfter the presentation\, there will be a Q&A\, where you can ask questions to Chris\, a therapist with OCD\, Liz\, a mother with a son with OCD\, and Dr. Jennifer Siegel\, a psychiatrist. You can ask questions about the presentation or general questions about your experience. \nWe are excited to have you join our support group one week early\, on Saturday\, October 3\, from 11 AM to 1 PM. PT. To join this free\, virtual event\, simply email info@ocdsocal.org to be on the mailing list and receive the Zoom link!
