Buildings, Bridges, and Monuments Will Light Up Teal for OCD Awareness Week Across the Nation
As part of OCD Awareness Week 2026, which runs from October 11 through October 17, iconic landmarks around the world from Niagara Falls to the Hispanidad Fountain in Spain, the Perth Bell Tower in Australia to the Torre dos Clérigos in Portugal will glow in teal. This visual spectacle is the cornerstone of the "Light It Up for OCD" campaign, an international effort organized by the International OCD Foundation to literally shine a light on obsessive compulsive disorder.
The color teal has become the symbolic hue for OCD awareness, and by lighting these venues, cities are making a powerful, public statement of solidarity with the millions affected. This initiative is vital because OCD affects 1 in 40 people worldwide, yet misconceptions and stigma often prevent individuals from seeking help, delaying treatment by an average of 14 years. By partnering with local governments, facilities managers, and events coordinators, the International OCD Foundation transforms these landmarks into beacons of hope.
For those living with OCD and related disorders, seeing a local bridge, city hall, or monument bathed in teal serves as a profound validation of their struggles. It signals that their community sees them and supports them. As we kick off this special awareness week with these illuminations, we look forward to reducing stigma, encouraging those suffering in silence to seek treatment, and fostering a world where no one has to face OCD alone.
