Tom Hansen, PhD, MSW
Mental Health Consultant
Narrative of Services:
I provide individual, couple, group and family services to people experiencing a wide range of psychological and relationship problems. Much of my work with individuals involves work with people experiencing various forms of anxiety and comorbid depression. The course of my work involves three separate phases: assessment and evaluation, a middle phase that includes outside tasks or homework assignments, and an ending phase. I accept most commercial insurances and Medicare, as well as all major credit cards. A review of my Web Site (www.hansencounseling.org) may be helpful in your search for a provider.
I have been providing mental health & relationship counseling in Maine since 1981. My doctorate is in Family Studies and Family Therapy. I did my doctoral internship at the Augusta Mental Health Institute. Prior to that I did an externship in family therapy at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic. I have also received training in the treatment of anxiety disorders, including CBT, ERP Prolonged Exposure and habit reversal. My Master’s Degree is in social work where I worked primarily with adolescents. More recently I’ve worked with adults in the treatment of anxiety disorders & with couples with anxious partners.
