Marcus LaSota PhD
The majority of my part-time practice has centered on treating individuals with OCD and related concerns. I am shifting my practice to full-time in the summer of 2024 and hope to continue this specialty.
In graduate school, my research and training were specific to understanding and treating anxiety disorders, while emphasizing perfectionism and OCD. For the next 16 years, I worked full time in university counseling, while specializing in the treatment of individuals with OCD in my part-time practice since 2017. Additionally, I completed formal BTTI training and certification in 2022.
For most of my professional career, my full time role was that of a staff psychologist and, more recently, the director of an APA-approved internship program at a religiously affiliated private university. Many of my clients and the clients of those I supervised represented a broad range of ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, religious, and intersectional identities. In working with anxiety and OCD, I strongly consider individual and cultural factors in one’s presenting concerns.
In addition to my own personal and professional commitment to understanding the impact of power and privilege, in society and within therapy, I participate in regular trainings on anti-racism. For several years, I facilitated a biweekly seminar with doctoral interns on understanding and integrating culture into our practice. I continue to aspire to challenge my own biases and seek ongoing cultural humility in the service of those whom I serve professionally.
