Allen Liao PhD
I specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy with an emphasis on exposure and response prevention (ERP). I also have a background in motivational interviewing and mindfulness-based approaches such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) – all of which inform my treatment strategy. I’ve treated hundreds of individuals for an array of mental health concerns. For most of my patients, OCD/anxiety is the primary presenting problem.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
I often treat co-occurring problems, including any combination of mood/anxiety disorders, BFRBs/tics, substance use, and other problems of emotional/behavioral dysregulation. A good cognitive-behavioral conceptualization combined with ERP helps to prioritize and alleviate these often co-occurring problems.
I have 5+ years of experience specializing with OCD/anxiety and ERP, in outpatient and intensive outpatient settings (including tele-health). I completed my postdoctoral training at Harbor-UCLA in CBT/DBT, with a strong background and interest in treating OCD and co-occurring problems.
Diversity Statement:
I have extensive experience and enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds, including multicultural and LGBTQ+ populations. As an Asian American, I am familiar with the stigma and lack of awareness often surrounding mental health issues, and I hope to change that!
