Narrative of Services:

First, it is a great privilege to be allowed into another individual's world to share in their struggles, challenges, and triumphs through our work in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My practice focuses primarily on older adolescents, adults, adn older adults. I provide individual evaluations, and CBT for OCD and related conditions. I use a case formulation approach which allows a degree of flexibility depending upon the needs of a given case (e.g., pace of treatment, involvement of spouse or significant other, home visits). Over the past 18 years, I have also worked closely with an expert in the pharmacotherapy of anxiety disorders, including OCD, and also collaborate with him on a number of cases.

Training Description:

I have been in practice for over 25 years and have been on the clinical faculty at Pennsylvania Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania since 1983. While in graduate school at the University of Georgia, I had the good fortune to train in the behavioral treatment of OCD by two pioneers in behavior therapy. I have published a number of research/clinical papers dealing with OC related disorders: Malatesta (1990); AuBuchon & Malatesta (1994); Malatesta (1995); AuBuchon & Malatesta (1998). Most recently, I prepared a chapter, entitled "Behavioral treatment of a case involving obsessive compulsive hoarding: Case formulation, the therapeutic relationship, and in vivo therapy" for the book "Psychotherapist Revealed: Therapists Speak about Self-Disclosure in Psychotherapy".
