Katie Merrill, LCSW

I treat exclusively clients experiencing OCD, anxiety spectrum disorders such as Social Anxiety Disorder, GAD, BDD, Health Anxiety, Panic Disorder, and Specific Phobias. I utilize Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP – the gold standard treatment for OCD), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and CBT. I furthermore specialize in the treatment of Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (e.g. hair pulling, skin picking), for which I utilize structured awareness training, mindfulness skills, cognitive therapy, and habit reversal techniques. I operate from a humanistic, strengths-centered stance through which clients will learn tools to break free from the OCD and BFRB cycles and cultivate deeper self-acceptance.
I have worked for many years in community mental health, where I have had the rewarding opportunity to serve diverse communities and cultures throughout Los Angeles. Desire to learn about cultures different from my own is a key reasons why I originally decided to become a therapist. I always aim to operate from a stance of curiosity and humility in my work with diverse populations.

I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from UCLA and a BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley. I have had extensive training in Exposure and Response Prevention, ACT, and CBT for specific treatment of OCD and anxiety-related disorders at OCD Specialists. I am trained in the ComB Comprehensive Behavioral Model) for BFRBs by Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC). I have further training in CBT/ERP for OCD and BFRBs from CBT School.
Cultural Competency/Diversity Training:
In working a therapist at community mental health agencies for many years serving children and adults, I have had extensive cultural competency/humility training, as well as training in working with individuals experiencing severe trauma and abuse. I have further training via the EDGY (Embracing the Diversity of GLBTQ Youth and Families) Conference as well as a Supporting LGBTQIA+ Communities Training.
I previously provided mental health services to individuals (children and adults) experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, psychosis, severe trauma, and mood disorders.
