Narrative of Services:

About 80 percent of my practice consists of individuals with OCD. The rest consists mostly of individuals with anxiety disorders and OCD spectrum disorders e.g., trichotillomania and skin picking. In the last 24 years, I have treated hundreds of patients with OCD. I especially enjoy treating primarily obsessional OCD (intrusive thoughts of harming self or others, relationship OCD, SO-OCD, scrupulosity, etc.), and postpartum OCD. I also treat Tourettic OCD, perfectionism, OCPD, and OCD spectrum disorders, e.g., trichotillomania and skin-picking, panic disorder, adult ADHD, comorbid eating disorders, GAD and SAD. Intensive therapy and teletherapy are also available.

I treat OCD with comorbid anxiety disorders e.g., panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder,as well as ADHD, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, eating disorders, postpartum OCD, anxiety or depression, depression, and bipolar disorder. I use primarily cognitive-behavioral therapy, e.g., exposure and response prevention, and for depression, cognitive therapy and behavioral activation. I also use ACT techniques as an adjunct for OCD, anxiety disorders, and depression.

I practice in Houston, Texas, a city of over 4 million people (4th largest city in the U.S.) which has one of the most diverse, multi-ethnic populations in the country. I have learned much from people from all over the world especially about different versions of OCD (e.g., religious obsessions and compulsions occur in all religions – Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.) I have also found that Exposure and Response Prevention treatment works with individuals of all cultures and backgrounds.

Training Description:

I received my Ph.D. in Psychology from Florida State University in 1984 and was licensed as a Psychologist in Texas in 1987. I began private practice focusing on anxiety disorders and stress management. I began treating OCD 1996 (24 years ago). After attending a BTTI in 1997, which greatly expanded my knowledge of Exposure and Response Prevention treatment methods, I began specializing in treating OCD. In the last 24 years, I have treated hundreds of patients with OCD. I have given numerous presentations at IOCDF conferences and elsewhere, about primarily obsessional OCD, postpartum OCD, OCD and ADHD, Family Accommodation, etc.

In Texas for licensure, we psychologists are required to have at least 3 hours of Continuing Education per year on the topic of Diversity, which I have fulfilled for many years. My primary experience comes from working with fascinating individuals of diverse, multicultural backgrounds who have come to me for treatment.
