Steven Phillipson, PhD
Director, Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy
Narrative of Services:
I provide individual and group therapy based on an exposure and response prevention paradigm. I integrate cognitive therapy techniques as a supplement to the behavior therapy. Primary therapeutic principles include but are not limited to mindfulness, autonomy, and weekly home based therapeutic assignments. My case load since 1986 has been made up of 80% patients who suffer from OCD. I created a world renowned website "OCDOnline" which outlines treatment and understanding of this complex condition. I am currently the Director and the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy.
I received my first Masters degree at Towson University. I received my PhD in clinical and school psychology at Hofstra University in 1989. During my training I completed two internships – my first internship was at Johns Hopkins Hospital, my second internship was at the Institute for Behavior Therapy. I authored the first article on the treatment of the purely obsessional form of OCD in 1988. Subsequent to that article I was commissioned to produce a video on the Foundation of this article. I am on the IOCDF's scientific advisory board.
