Treatment Modalities

It has long been accepted that the first line treatment for OCD is exposure and response prevention. Over time there have been some techniques and modifications incorporated into treatment have led to refining our understanding and better treatment. However, too often, I see patients who have failed in treatment simply because the patient never agreed to the goals of treatment. This workshop will focus on helping the client to accept the goals of treatment with attention to how to modify your approach for different treatment presentations.

Learning Objective 1: Participants will be able to teach clients how to accept the goal of learning to live with uncertainty and be able to tailor their intervention to different presentations of OCD.

Learning Objective 2: Participants will be able to will teach clients how to create a picture of how to cope with the specific uncertainties of their presentations.

Learning Objective 3: Participants will be able to to assess and evaluate the feared consequences of their client’s presentation in order to address their personal concerns about treatment.
