Launch of Peace of Mind Kids OCD Online Support Group

October 17, 2019 at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The Peace of Mind Foundation’s Online Kids and Teens OCD Support Group goal is to help young OCD sufferers connect with peers and gain emotional and practical support through peer relationships. We hope that this group will help young people realize they are not alone in their journey of taking control of their OCD. At each meeting a group facilitator will lead a discussion on educational topics involving evidence-based ways to decrease OCD symptoms. This group is not intended to replace treatment, but to provide participants with additional support. Family members may attend meetings, but we ask that they do not participate in a group for the purpose of allowing all young people space to share if desired. This is an online web-based face-to-face platform however you can choose to have your video on or off.

This is a free group.

Schedule:

1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm (CST)

Who can attend this group:

Teens and children (17 years or younger) that suffer from OCD can attend this group. We welcome caregivers and parents to accompany their child in the group; however, we ask that you respectfully allow the children to primarily participate. Depending on the number of participants, the facilitators may split the group into two smaller, breakout groups based on age (6-13 and 14-17). At all times, there must be two facilitators present during the groups. The two facilitator rule also applies to breakout groups. This group is not intended for sufferers of related disorders (e.g., Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, other Anxiety Disorders, etc.) unless the individual has co-occuring symptoms of OCD. This group is also not intended to be a caregivers or family member support group, although we encourage them to accompany their child in the group.

The Purpose:

Provide a place to discuss issues directly and indirectly relevant to OCD
Increase knowledge of OCD and empirically-supported treatments through educational topics and provide peer support to help them stay motivated
Reduce stigma and provide support by showing other members that they are not alone in their struggles
Goals:

Facilitator led educational discussions related to OCD
Provide peer-to-peer support
Help guide members to take the appropriate steps to take control over their OCD
