This webinar begins with a brief overview of the basis for using exposure therapy (and response prevention) for OCD. Next, we cover the inhibitory learning perspective and how it differs from the traditional approach to exposure, which focuses on habituation of anxiety. The bulk of the webinar includes a discussion of numerous techniques clinicians can use to maximize inhibitory learning during exposure. These techniques fall into the following categories: fostering fear tolerance, de-contextualizing learning, maximizing variability, and linguistic processing. The techniques are described in detail so that clinicians can implement them in their practice. Finally, the webinar covers implications for cognitive therapy for OCD, and overlaps with ACT.
