Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a common and often severe psychiatric disorder. A majority of patients with BDD seek cosmetic treatment, usually with an unsatisfactory outcome for both the patient and the clinician providing such treatment. This webinar will discuss BDD’s definition, prevalence, key clinical features; cosmetic treatment for BDD; psychiatric treatment for BDD; screening for and diagnosing BDD in cosmetic treatment settings; and suggested approaches for providers of cosmetic treatment if they suspect that a patient may have BDD.

Learning Objective 1: Attendees will be able to describe key clinical features of body dysmorphic disorder and diagnose this disorder.

Learning Objective 2: Attendees will be able identify risks associated with cosmetic treatment for body dysmorphic disorder and reasons that cosmetic treatment is not recommended for body dysmorphic disorder.

Learning Objective 3: Attendees will be able to discuss symptoms with patients with body dysmorphic disorder in a way that is beneficial for both the patient and the surgeon, dermatologist, or other provider of cosmetic treatment.
