Deirdre Myers, LPC
Owner
- LGBTQIA+ Affirming
My practice primarily serves adults with OCD, anxiety, trauma, and neurodivergence, with OCD making up a substantial portion of my caseload. I provide individual therapy using ERP and I-CBT, often alongside ACT, CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches when there are co-occurring concerns. I regularly work with intrusive thoughts, mental compulsions, reassurance seeking, rumination, scrupulosity, relationship OCD, harm OCD, POCD, and real-event OCD. I also offer a virtual OCD support group and provide consultation and education around OCD treatment.
I treat OCD and co-occurring concerns together rather than assuming every symptom is coming from the same place. OCD treatment is typically grounded in ERP and/or I-CBT, while other concerns may be addressed with CBT, DBT, ACT, trauma-focused work, or other evidence-based approaches depending on what is actually driving the symptoms. I pay close attention to how conditions interact so that treatment for one concern does not accidentally reinforce OCD through reassurance, avoidance, or compulsive coping. When appropriate, I also collaborate with other providers involved in the client’s care.
I am a licensed professional counselor in Michigan and Pennsylvania and have several years of experience treating adults with OCD and related presentations. My OCD-specific training includes ERP, I-CBT, ACT-based interventions, and ongoing advanced training focused on intrusive thoughts, mental compulsions, reassurance seeking, rumination, taboo themes, scrupulosity, and related presentations. I also participate in ongoing OCD-focused consultation and continuing education and regularly integrate current research and evidence-based treatment recommendations into my clinical work.
I work with adults from a wide range of cultural, racial, socioeconomic, religious, gender, and sexual identities, and I try to approach those differences with curiosity rather than assumptions. I have particular experience working with neurodivergent clients, LGBTQ+ clients, individuals with religious or moral concerns, and people navigating trauma, disability, and systemic barriers to care. I consider culture, identity, access, and lived experience when developing treatment goals and adapting evidence-based OCD treatment so that care remains both clinically appropriate and meaningful to the individual.
My training has included multicultural counseling, trauma-informed care, LGBTQ+ affirmative practice, neurodiversity-affirming care, and work with clients across varied racial, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, and disability backgrounds. I also teach multicultural counseling, which keeps me actively engaged with cultural humility, bias, identity development, systemic inequities, and culturally responsive practice. Clinically, I try to understand how a client’s identities and lived experiences shape both symptoms and treatment, while avoiding assumptions about what those experiences mean for the individual.
A weekly virtual support group for adults with OCD, held Wednesdays from 7:00–8:00 PM ET. The group provides a supportive space to connect with others who understand OCD while building skills informed by ERP, I-CBT, ACT, and other evidence-based approaches. Topics include intrusive thoughts, uncertainty, compulsions, avoidance, and living meaningfully alongside discomfort. The group is pay-what-you-can ($0–$30 per session) to keep it accessible.
