Heather M Chik, PhD, HSPP
Narrative of Services:
I have a private practice, the Anxiety & OCD Behavioral Health Center, in Munster, IN that specializes in diagnosis and evidenced-based treatment of OCD and spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, and other related behavioral disorders. I treat these conditions using CBT, ERP, mindfulnes-based treatments, and other evidence-based approaches. Sessions are conducted in the office, or can be conducted in the person's home, in the community/public, or over the phone/Skype, depending on the nature of the problem and agreed upon treatment plan. Treatment sessions may occur once per week or more frequently, and may vary in length from 50 – 120min as deemed necessary.
I have received extensive training in using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) in evaluating and treating OCD and spectrum disorders and anxiety disorders. This training was from several experts who are scientific advisory board members of IOCDF and Beyond OCD, faculty of IOCDF's Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI), and certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Specifically, I received training at the University of British Columbia Anxiety Disorders Clinic as a research assistant (2001 – 2004); Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (formerly Chicago Medical School), where I earned my PhD (2010); Chicago's Anxiety and Agoraphobia Treatment Center (AATC) as a clinical extern (2007 – 2009); Vancouver CBT Centre as a clinical intern (2010); and St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute as a postdoctoral resident (2010 – 2011). I returned to AATC as a clinical psychologist and led the OCD Support Group for Beyond OCD from 2011 – 2012.
