Shanda Curiel PsyD

Psychologist

Owner, Allay OCD

Kansas City, Missouri 64116
Narrative of Services:

Many individuals with OCD attempt to achieve perfect thoughts/behaviors to prevent harm, wrongdoing, or discomfort with unhelpful coping, only for perpetual doubt or discomfort to return. Sometimes a baby’s arrival can prompt mothers and fathers to experience excessive safety fears. ERP helps allay symptoms. Let’s replace the confinements of certainty with the freedom of uncertainty so you can welcome life’s quiet moments again.

In addition to OCD, my private practice is devoted to Tic Disorders, BDD, Trichotillomania, & Excoriation. Treatment entails entail assessment, psychoeducation, cognitive and behavioral/exposure interventions, implementing adaptive responses, and/or habituation.

Second location in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Training Description:

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist originally trained as a generalist treating the entire lifespan in a variety of settings since 2004; however, in 2011 narrowed my scope of practice. My OCD training is from IOCDF’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute (General and Advanced BTTIs) and UPENN’s Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (Intensive Training in EX/RP for OCD). I have also attended multiple workshops for Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Trichotillomania, and Excoriation Disorder. I often give presentations to medical/psychiatric professionals and community members to raise awareness of the etiology, symptoms, and maintenance of perinatal and traditional onset OCD.

General BTTI 2011 Wisconsin, Advanced BTTI 2017 Boston, Pediatric BTTI 2018 Wisconsin.

Diversity Statement:
I have lived and practiced in a variety of communities (urban, suburban, rural) in states across the US. I have worked with individuals with various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and am LGBTQ* friendly.
