Brett Deacon, PhD
- Veterans Support
I provide individual therapy via telehealth (video sessions) to clients who live in Texas. I specialise in working with clients seeking help for OCD and other anxiety-related disorders. I have devoted my career to becoming an expert in exposure therapy, a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy that is the most scientifically supported approach available for these problems. I have over 20 years of experience and am recognised internationally as an authority on the nature and treatment of anxiety. I am co-author of Exposure Therapy for Anxiety: Principles and Practice (Guilford Press, 2019).
I am kind, compassionate, and engaging and form a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients. My approach is practical, present-focused, and action-oriented. I believe in “doing therapy,” not simply “talking therapy.” My core values are: (1) the needs of the client come first, (2) the practice of psychology should be science-based, and (3) problems of thinking, feeling and behaving are not medical diseases. My goal is to help clients live a rich, full, and meaningful life in accordance with their values while learning to accept the psychological ups and downs that show up along the way.
I earned a PhD in clinical psychology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. I have taught, trained, and supervised dozens of students in exposure therapy during my 20+ years as a professor and practitioner. I have presented dozens of highly acclaimed workshops on exposure therapy to professionals around the world.
