Leslie C. Higgins PsyD
I offer services in a private outpatient practice, Higgins Psychological Services. Since refocusing on OCD treatment, approximately 50 percent of my patients at any given time are being treated for OCD. Many have comorbidities such as ADHD, Mood Disorders, or Autism Spectrum Disorders.
I have extensive experience with individuals with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Mood Disorders. Treatment approaches are rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral approaches combined with psychoeducation and family education of strategies.
I was fortunate to have supervisors for both BTTI trainings who are deeply involved in IOCDF and are treating providers. Their insights and direction were invaluable. Prior to attending the BTTI’s, I based my strategies on the work of John March and attended a training with him in approximately 1994. I have participated in numerous IOCDF conventions and continuing education events since BTTI completion. Most recently, I was a presenter for the Online OCD Camp. Last year, I presented on OCD to the Louisiana Psychological Association.
I have worked with individuals and families from various cultures including indiginous populations, Middle Eastern, and rural backgrounds, as well as those of various races and religions. My current patient population includes a range of income levels and educational backgrounds. As I only speak English, my patients are all able to communicate effectively in English. My clientele reflects the local poulation in regard to gender identity and expression.
I recently attended a workshop titled PTSD and Racial Trauma presented by Monnica Williams, PhD, ABPP which was sponsored by my local psychological association. For 19 years, I served as a consultant to the Head Start program in a rural parish and as a consultant to the special education department, primarily working with the Court School program. Most of my work was with children and families from low-income, minority families.
