Smita Kapoor DMFT, LMFT
At this time, I am only providing services via Telehealth. However, 60% of my clients have OCD or OCD-related disorders. I use ERP, ACT, and Mindfulness to treat OCD. I earned my Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University. With many certifications and long experience in the mental health setting, I bring compassion and cares to each session. I aim to empower clients to make healthy decisions and learn more about themselves.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
I work with clients suffering from Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD/Trauma. I received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, an evidence-based modality that helps clients’ brains get “unstuck” from trauma in their past. In addition, I took advanced training on treating OCD and Eating disorders. I also utilize IFS, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in sessions with clients to support a growing awareness of how thoughts inform mood and behaviors. Clients develop their goals for therapy, and I teach the skills necessary to reach those goals.
I have been treating OCD for the last three years completed OCD training through NOCD, and completed a 4-Day Intensive Workshop: Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy for OCD. I continue to attend training and seminars to stay updated and gain more knowledge.
I believe learning and being culturally competent is an ongoing process. Therefore, I continue to educate myself. I also teach Culture and Diversity classes to Master level students at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Anaheim.
