Kayla Olmedo, LCMHCA
- LGBTQIA+ Affirming
Currently, around 50% of my clients are diagnosed with OCD or a related disorder. The other half of my caseload is made up of individuals who are neurodivergent, experiencing domestic violence, going through a major life transition, or experiencing a mood disorder or a personality disorder. Around 10% of my caseload is under the age of 18, with the majority of my caseload being adults. I am neurodivergent-affirming. I am also LGBTQIA+ inclusive/affirming, with currently 25%-30% of my caseload identifying as queer.
I treat ADHD, Anxiety, depression, autism, mood disorders, and personality disorders, along with OCD. I integrate ACT, CBT, and somatic practices to address cognitive distortions and psychosomatic responses. Together, we practice exposure to triggers, build skills to learn how to experience our responses without immediate compulsions, learn how to observe experiences without immediate judgment, practice daily grounding and mindfulness techniques, and establish foundational values that help drive healthier decision-making.
I have 3 years of experience treating OCD and have gone through multiple trainings through NOCD to provide effective ERP treatment. I have extensive training in ACT and recently completed APA- and NCCB-credentialed trainings on using ACT for OCD treatment and integrating ACT with ERP. My supervisor is also extensively trained in treating pediatric OCD and is a licensed play therapist, offering me insight and guidance on pediatric OCD treatment.
As a white female counselor in a diverse and multiracial family and with a diverse and multicultural caseload, I find it personally and professionally necessary to recognize my privilege, challenge my biases, engage in ongoing multicultural competency training throughout the year, and participate in local LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community groups/events. I am queer-allied and racial justice-allied. I am dedicated to continuing my multicultural engagement and continuing to educate myself and stay actively engaged in diverse communities for the betterment of my peers, family, and clients.
