Fred Penzel, PhD
Psychologist/Executive Director; IOCDF Scientific Advisory Board Member
Narrative of Services:
I practiced CBT for close to 7 years at BioBehavioral Psychiatry in Great Neck, NY (from June 1982 through January 1989). In February 1989, I founded Western Suffolk Psychological Services in Huntington, New York, where I am the Executive Director, as well as a practicing psychologist. WSPS is a private full-service outpatient clinic which currently employs 9 psychologists and 3 psychiatrists. We specialize in the treatment of OCD, BDD, Trichotillomania (TTM), and other body-focused behaviors. We also offer treatment for the other anxiety disorders (panic and agoraphobia, phobias, PTSD), as well as ADHD and high-functioning autism.
I received my PhD in School/Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in December 1985. I have been engaged in the treatment of OCD and OC Related Disorders since June of 1982, beginning as a student intern. I received 3,000 supervised hours as a pre doctoral intern and another 3,000 hours, post doctorally. These hours of supervision were all done under the guidance of a recognized senior therapist. I was part of the OCD Expert Consensus panel hosted by NIMH in 1996, and I have been an instructor at four of the IOCDF's Behavior Therapy Training Institutes (BTTI). I am also author of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorders", (Oxford University Press, 2000), and "The Hair-Pulling Problem" (Oxford University Press, 2003).
