Ghazel Tellawi, PhD
- LGBTQIA+ Affirming
My specialty areas are in OCD and POC and LGBTQ+ affirming care. Around 60-70% of my current practice caseload has OCD. and I have treated roughly 60 individuals with OCD.
I utilize an integrative approach when treating co-occurring disorders and collaborate with clients to decide on our treatment priorities. I use ERP for OCD and related disorders, and mostly ACT for other disorders.
I began learning to treat OCD in my master’s program at UHCL in 2010, continuing to train during my PhD at the University of Louisville from 2013-2018. Both experiences were under senior providers in the field with additional practicum experiences through other OCD providers. I have attended several IOCDF conferences and engage in OCD related CEUs and consultation.
I am openly a queer provider of color and this is a big part of my practice. A large part of my practice is POC or LGBTQ+ folks with OCD.
Cultural competency has been a thread through all of my training, beginning with working with folks of many ethnoracial backgrounds in Houston, training under a diversity expert at the university of lousville, attending an internship with a focus on LGBTQ+ affirming care, and completing my postdoc at the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health. I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ individuals and clients of color.
