Lindsay Wakayama, PsyD

Psychologist
Narrative of Services:

I am a licensed clinical psychologist providing evidence-based psychotherapy to adults throughout California via telehealth. I work in both group and private practice, treating OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, relationship issues, depression, and concerns related to sleep, eating, and physical health. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and compassion-based interventions. Drawing on my background in health psychology and behavioral medicine, I provide individualized, collaborative treatment to help clients reduce avoidance, develop psychological flexibility, and make meaningful, sustainable changes.

Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:

I work with adults experiencing OCD alongside co-occurring anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand how OCD symptoms and co-occurring concerns interact and impact daily functioning. I develop individualized treatment plans that address both OCD and broader mental health needs, integrating evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness, and compassion-based interventions. I incorporate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) principles and techniques to address OCD symptoms, while tailoring treatment to each client’s needs and goals.

Training Description:

I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the APA-accredited PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium and have extensive experience providing evidence-based psychological care across academic medical and healthcare settings, including Stanford, UCSF, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. My clinical training includes treating anxiety and related conditions using CBT, ACT, and exposure-based interventions. I currently practice at California Psychology Center, a group practice specializing in OCD and anxiety disorders, where I participate in ongoing clinical didactics and professional consultation with colleagues experienced in ERP. I incorporate ERP principles and techniques in my work with individuals experiencing OCD symptoms.

Diversity Statement:

I am committed to providing culturally responsive, inclusive, and affirming psychological care. As an Asian American psychologist, I appreciate the ways culture, identity, family dynamics, and lived experiences can shape mental health and help-seeking. My clinical work across diverse healthcare settings, including the VA, has involved working with individuals from varied racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. I approach therapy with cultural humility, curiosity, and respect, collaboratively adapting evidence-based interventions to align with each client’s unique experiences, values, and goals.
