Although neuroimaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging existed at the time of this study and could take high-quality pictures of the brain, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) could visualize the brain’s white matter. This study by Dr. Liu and his team aimed to use DTI to further understand the circuitry of the brain as it relates to OCD, and to help discover white matter abnormalities.
