Narrative of Services:
I offer cognitive behavioral therapy including exposure and response prevention, mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies for obsessive compulsive spectrum conditions, anxiety and trauma. OC Spectrum conditions have been at least 40% of my practice since 2004. I’ve worked with several hundred clients with these conditions including OCD, BDD, hair pulling, and skin picking. I’ve developed a unique approach to supporting clients experiencing perfectionism to promote resilience and consistency in behavior change.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
I provide evidence-based treatment for trauma, anxiety, and depressive disorders including exposure, behavioral activation, mindfulness- and acceptance-based strategies. While not required to work with me, I enjoy supporting people who want to integrate their spiritual beliefs into the process and may have worries about manifesting their fears using exposure.
Training Description:
I completed my two year postdoctoral fellowship at the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living and I’ve spent most of my career working there. I also spent some time at the Center for OCD and Related Disorders at Massachusetts General Hospital under the leadership of a scientific advisory board member. At that time, 100% of my clients were experiencing obsessive-compulsive spectrum conditions. I’ve engaged in regular continuing education in addition to my active practice.
Diversity Statement:
I have practiced in Hartford, CT, Boston, MA, Fayetteville, AR, Morgantown, WV and Southern Maine. Working in a variety of locations throughout the United States has given me the opportunity to work with individuals from a variety of ethnicities, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural traditions.Practicing in communities with vastly different cultural attitudes has given me valuable perspective on how identities around race, sexual orientation, and gender are received and experienced differently in different contexts. This experience has taught me to appreciate the complex ways that intersecting identities shape each person’s unique challenges and resilience.
My formal education provided essential training in cultural competency, teaching me about diverse communities, health disparities, and culturally responsive care practices. However, my real understanding developed through working directly with clients from varied backgrounds. I learned that textbook knowledge cannot capture the richness of each person’s individual experience. Through practice, I discovered that effective care requires genuine curiosity about my client’s unique perspective, cultural humility to recognize what I don’t know, and flexibility to adapt my approach to honor my client’s values and experiences. I’m committed to creating a therapeutic space where my client’s complete identity is welcomed and respected.
