Description:

Psychology Houston: The Center for Cognitive Behavioral Treatment was founded by Suzanne Mouton-Odum, Ph.D., a lifetime Houstonian who has been practicing psychology in the Houston area since 1995. After years of independent practice, Dr. Mouton-Odum created Psychology Houston which houses a group of expertly-trained psychologists, all focused on providing evidence-based treatments for people suffering with various psychological problems.

All of the providers at Psychology Houston are trained to treat anxiety, OCD, depression, hair pulling and skin picking, grief, relationship issues, trauma, and other psychological difficulties experienced by children, adolescents, and adults. Although CBT interventions are scientifically grounded, they are used in a supportive environment where the relationship between therapist and client is primary. The goals of treatment are typically to work with clients to change specific thoughts, feelings, and behaviors resulting in more adaptive coping and improved emotional well-being.

Shortly after launching Psychology Houston, Dr. Mouton-Odum, and her colleague Dr. Tyson Reuter opened the HABIT Clinic (Houston Area Behavioral Institute for Tourette) to treat individuals with Tic Disorders. The HABIT Clinic utilizes a non-medication, behavioral approach that is targeted at reducing tics.

Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT) is grounded in research, and it works. We are very clear with our clients about what treatment is needed, what to expect, and how long it will take to resolve the problem.

Psychology Houston was founded in 2016 with the goal of providing top notch, evidence-based care to all of Houston.

Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:

We provide CBT for a variety of co-occurring disorders. Specifically, for BFRBs, we treat with the Comprehensive Behavioral Model, for Tic Disorders we treat utilizing CBIT. For Adjustment and Mood disorders we use a combination of CBT, ACT, and DBT skills. We pride ourselves in only doing evidence-based treatments for specific disorders that we are trained to treat.

Diversity Statement:

Our Mission Statement:
Our goal is to help our clients be successful at reaching their goals in a timely fashion within a supportive, therapeutic relationship, using targeted interventions that work. We welcome collaborating with individuals of diverse backgrounds, encompassing differences in race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

In Texas we are required each year to get 3 hours of CE in Diversity in order to maintain our licenses. We regularly attend workshops that address issues surrounding multicultural issues and cultural competency.

Houston is a very culturally diverse metropolitan area and our practice is a good reflection of this demographic. We have trainees from The University of Houston Clinical Psychology program work for a year at our practice as practicum students and they are able to see clients for the cost of a co-pay (or less if they cannot afford it). We do not turn anyone away due to financial constraints.
