Understanding OCD: Foundations, Misconceptions, and the Power of Exposure and Response Prevention

May 14 at 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EDT

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a complex condition, and our understanding of its presentation and treatment continues to evolve. This webinar provides an evidence-based overview of the foundations of OCD, common clinical barriers to effective treatment, and the rationale for Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) as the gold-standard intervention. We will examine how intrusive thoughts differ from typical worry, why compulsions persist despite insight into their irrationality, and how avoidance and reassurance-seeking maintain the OCD cycle. The session emphasizes a functional understanding of symptoms to guide effective intervention.
