Narrative of Services:

Since 1987, 100% of Dr. Sookman’s practice has been devoted to specialized treatment of OCD and related disorders through the lifespan. Dr. Sookman has treated over ten thousand patients suffering from OCD, as well as many cases suffering from OCD related disorders. Dr. Sookman is Director, The Canadian Treatment Center for Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (CTCOCD, www.ctcocd.ca); staff specialist, McGill University Health Center; Associate Professor, McGill University; and President of the Canadian Institute for Obsessive Compulsive Disorders [www.ciocd.ca]. Dr. Sookman is an internationally known expert in specialized treatments for OCD and related disorders throughout the lifespan.

The Canadian Treatment Center for Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (CTCOCD, www.ctcocd.ca) directed by Dr. Sookman is the national specialized treatment center responsible for provision of specialty services on request for OCD and related disorders throughout the lifespan to Canadians from all provinces and regions, as well as to international residents. CTCOCD offices are located in several Canadian provinces. The CTCOCD offers specialized evidence based treatments for OCD and related disorders that include therapist assisted home based treatments and/or intensive treatment programs as needed for local as well as out of town patients (e.g., daily prolonged sessions). Co-occurring disorders such as anxiety disorders, secondary depression, as well as OCD related interpersonal, skills, and self-esteem issues are also addressed. Individuals who suffer from co-occurring disorders that require additional treatment are referred to be considered for other specialty treatment, sequentially or concurrently, as appropriate.

Training Description:

Dr. Sookman is an internationally known expert in specialized treatments for OCD and related disorders. She has treated or supervised the treatment of over ten thousand patients suffering from OCD through the lifespan (children, adolescents, adults). She served as Director of Training by appointment in the Department of Psychology, MUHC, for 14 years. She has supervised over 300 doctoral psychology students and 40 psychiatric residents.
