Description:

OCD Central & South Florida (OCDCSFL) was founded in 2016, as a local affiliate of the IOCDF. We aim to increase awareness of OCD and related disorders, and improve access to evidence-based treatment and other resources in our community. We put on a variety of programming and workshops will the goal of disseminating evidence-based treatment, providing research updates, and working to improve access to information and support for affected individuals, caregivers, and professionals in our community.

Updates:

Our most recent event, OCD Awareness Week 2018: Community Awareness Event & Fundraiser, brought together anyone affected by OCD, their loved ones, and professionals. For the event, we showed the documentary, “Unstuck: an OCD Kids Movie,” which depicts the challenges and successes of several youth as they work to overcome OCD. The event included group discussion, Q&A with several OCD experts, a 3-course social lunch, a fundraiser/silent auction, and break-out support groups by age. This event was held in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and due to grants and sponsorships, we were able to provide registration free to the first 100 registrants! We received great feedback from this event, and we hope to do similar events in the future!

In March 2018, OCDCSFL collaborated with the Florida Psychological Association – Palm Chapter, for a workshop on Complex Presentations in the Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, with presentations by E. Katia Moritz, Ph.D., ABPP on Co-morbidities & Complexities in OCD, and Connie L. Ingram, Ph.D., LMHC on Faith & Scrupulosity. This event was held in Boynton Beach, FL, and registration was free to IOCDF and FPA members. Continuing Education credits were provided.

For OCD Awareness Week in October 2017, we held a workshop in collaboration with Roger’s Behavioral Health, in which Eric Storch, Ph.D. presented on Diagnosis, Assessment and Treatment of OCD: A Primer for Professionals in St. Petersburg, Florida. Continuing Education credits were provided.

In March 2017, OCDCSFL collaborated with Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for a workshop entitled, OCD: The Basics and Beyond, in which Marni L. Jacob, PhD, Judith Migoya, PsyD, and Elizabeth Penela, PhD presented on the assessment and treatment of OCD using CBT with ERP, as well as implementing ERP with more challenging presentations. Continuing Education credits were provided.

We welcome ideas for new programming and events – please contact us if you have an idea or would like to collaborate on an event! We are also always looking for more people to participate in our mission. Please contact us at info@ocdcsfl.org if you are interested in getting involved!
