Narrative of Services:
My small practice is called Unchained Minds Counseling, LLC. When someone has OCD, we feel chained because of it- the goal is to work on becoming unchained. Being an “OCD-er” myself, I understand the difficulty of not giving in to the heavy chain of compulsions. Essentially all of the clients I have met with through my practice have OCD and/or an obsessive compulsive-related disorder.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
Oftentimes OCD shows up with an anxiety disorder or depression. In this case, I would treat anxiety disorders (like social anxiety, panic disorder, etc) with exposure. Depression treatment would likely incorporate behavioral activation.
Training Description:
I received my bachelor’s degree in 2011 from Houghton College in NY, where I studied Intercultural Studies and Psychology. I received my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Grace College in Indiana in 2018. From 2018 until 2021, I had a lot of different opportunities helping and supporting folks. I have, and continue to, work as a contractor through NOCD where I have been providing therapy services since 2021.
Diversity Statement:
In my undergraduate studies, one of my majors was Intercultural Studies. Since then, I have had many trainings around cultural competency. While working with someone different from me in some way, it’s important to take cultural differences into account and respect them. Trust and respect are the foundations of a successful therapeutic relationship.
