Maria Hwang PhD
Dr. Hwang treats young adults, with an emphasis on treating those with anxiety, phobias, OCD, OC spectrum disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors. She utilizes Exposure with Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Habit Reversal training, as well as aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Approximately 60% of Dr. Hwang’s current practice consists of individuals with OCD, and approximately 30% are individuals with other anxiety disorders.
Dr. Hwang provides evidence-based treatment for co-occurring anxiety disorders and depression.
Dr. Hwang earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. She completed an APA-accredited internship at the Family Service and Guidance center in Topeka, KS, where she received specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, phobias, OCD, and OC spectrum disorders. There, Dr. Hwang gained extensive experience in utilizing Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through her work in the evidenced-based Anxiety Treatment Program. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at a group private practice specializing in anxiety disorders to further her training.
