Narrative of Services:

When you’ve been struggling with OCD for a long time, and nothing brings relief, Laura Johnson, LMFT, LPCC can help. She uses several proven approaches. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) are the gold standard for OCD treatment. Schema Therapy is evidence-based for complex OCD and the personality traits underlying your struggles such as avoidance and perfectionism. Laura works OCD and co-occurring personality disorders such as avoidant personality and obsessive-compulsive personality. Schema therapy is a powerful approach when CBT/ERP alone are not enough.

Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:

I treat OCD and co-occurring personality disorders. I start with an evidence-based approach using CBT and ERP. If that is not enough, or I know right off the bat you have a personality disorder, then I use schema therapy to complement CBT/ERP. Schema therapy is the gold standard for personality disorders like avoidant personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

Training Description:

It’s hard to find a certified therapist in CBT and Schema Therapy who specializes in OCD. In fact, there are less than a handful of certified schema therapists in California. Laura is a Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapist with the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist through the International Society of Schema Therapy. Laura completed several of OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institutes and the ERP training program at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. Laura is dual-licensed in California and serves San Jose and anywhere in California.

Diversity Statement:

Laura Johnson is familiar with the complexities of being from two ethnic groups and not feeling like part of either. Her father and relatives are immigrants from Cuba who came over without speaking English and struggled with integration. Her mother is white and from the Northeast. Laura’s family came to the USA with nothing so she understands the economic struggles of immigrants.
