Joshua Kohansamad, LMFT

Counselor
Narrative of Services:

I specialize in the treatment of OCD and related anxiety disorders using evidence-based, customized therapy for adults across California via telehealth. My work focuses on rumination, decision anxiety, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, and OCD with physical symptoms or chronic pain. Many clients come to me after trying standard ERP and find renewed progress through my integrated approach, which utilizes top-level evidence-based practices such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). This fusion helps target the root of obsessive doubt and overthinking, not just the symptoms. Ninety percent of my practice is dedicated to OCD and related conditions, allowing me to offer precise, in-depth support for complex cases. I provide remote OCD therapy throughout California and Florida in a compassionate, collaborative environment. I offer a free consultation to see if we are a good fit for treatment.

Training Description:

I have studied OCD, rumination, and chronic pain for over 20 years and have practiced clinically since 2020. My work is informed by leaders such as Dr. Frederick Aardema (ICBT), Dr. Steve Hayes (ACT), Dr. Michael Greenberg (RF-ERP), Dr. Lorimer Moseley (pain research), and Dr. Adrian Wells (MCT). This background allows me to integrate both mind-body science and cognitive therapy for lasting change. I also bring a background in Zen and Japanese psychotherapy, which supports a grounded, mindful presence during treatment.

Diversity Statement:

Having lived and worked abroad for many years, I welcome and affirm clients of all identities and backgrounds. My practice is open, nonjudgmental, and culturally attuned, creating space for authentic exploration and growth.

Treatment Groups:

OCD Therapy & Support Group: 8-week series. Focused on OCD treatment, troubleshooting, and reducing rumination through shared practice and support.
