Fred Penzel PhD
Psychologist/Executive Director; IOCDF Scientific Advisory Board Member
Western Suffolk Psychological Services is a group practice of 4 psychologists and two psychiatrists. My own practice is divided into about 70% OCD and related disorders and 30% BFRBs. We specialize in Exposure & Response Prevention (E&RP) and Comprehensive Behavior Therapy for BFRBs. Since 1982 I have treated over 2,000 cases of OCD, not to mention BFRBs.
I received my PhD in School/Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in 1985. I have been engaged in the treatment of OCD and related disorders since 1982. I am a founding IOCDF SAB member and a BTI faculty member from its beginning. I am also author of “Obsessive Compulsive Disorders”, (Oxford University Press, 2016), and “The Hair-Pulling Problem” (Oxford University Press, 2003). I have lectured to professionals and patients nationally and internationally on OCD and BFRB topics and have been a frequent contributor to the IOCDF newsletter, in addition to contributing content to its website.
I have participated in the IOCDFs program to supervise multicultural psychologists and social workers.
Over the years I have treated people internationally from Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, South America, and the Pacific. This would include people from almost every race and major culture.
