Dr. Petruzzella earned his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia and completed an APA-accredited doctoral internship at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. He completed an APA accredited postdoctoral fellowship in the OCD and Anxiety Disorders Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) through the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Petruzzella provides culturally-responsive and LGBTQ-affirmative psychotherapy to address the unique experiences and needs of diverse individuals and couples.
Dr. Petruzzella’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is rooted in personal experiences as a gay man and developed through professional experiences with diverse populations. His personal knowledge and understanding of issues facing sexual minorities gave him an appreciation for others who experience adversity due to stigmatized identities, and this background has been complemented with considerable coursework, research experiences (i.e., research on LGBTQ issues), pedagogical training and experience, and clinical training focused on developing and employing strong cultural competence as a clinical psychologist.
