Dr. Smith’s clinical work uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), and deep brain stimulation (DBS) to treat illnesses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and major depressive disorder.
Dr. Smith’s goal is to reduce the need for trial-and-error in psychiatry by advancing individualized modulation of neural circuits. He earned his B.A. from Northwestern University, and his M.D./Ph.D. from Yale University, and his work has been recognized by awards from the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology, the American Psychiatric Association, and the National Institutes of Health.
