We are just two weeks away from the 1st annual 1 Million+ Steps 4 OCD Awareness Walk.  Already, 140 fundraisers and 49 teams have joined together with their friends, family, and colleagues to raise over $35,000 for the IOCDF!!!

The response from the OCD and related disorder community has been overwhelming!  We banded together as a community to support the programs of the IOCDF — we have posted our walk pages on Facebook and Twitter and many have shared their personal stories on their fundraising pages — in doing so, we are helping others to better understand OCD and related disorders and thereby we are changing the perception that people have of OCD.

We wrote yesterday about Denis Asselin setting out on part 2 of his journey, this time walking south to Washington, DC. You can follow his journey on his blog, or from Twitter.

Denis’ journey is our journey too. While he is out walking for his son Nathaniel, I want all of us to keep walking along with him.

I have another challenge for all of you: Since you have far exceeded our expectations by already raising $35,000 — that’s $10,000 over our original goal of $25,000 — let’s see if we can double our goal. Do you think we can hit $50,000 by June 8th, 2013? I think we can.

TOGETHER, we can do this.

Thank you to all of you for being part of this journey. If you think that you have already raised all you can — we thank you for that. But if think you can do more (we think you can), let’s see if you can help meet our challenge! Check out our fundraising tools here, for some extra help.

And if you haven’t registered yet, there is still time! Register to walk virtually, or in Boston.

In Boston, we are hoping to have at least 300 walkers join us on June 8th, so we can show the OCD community’s strength in numbers. If you live in New England, can you join us, and bring a friend (or two, or ten)?

Tell your friends that walking is easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Register online at iocdf.org/WALKboston. You can register on your own, or create a team to walk and fundraise with. We will also have on-site registration at Boston walk on June 8, starting at 8am, though we encourage you to register online in advance.
  2. Start fundraising in advance of the walk! Walkers who raise at least $50 get a commemorative walk T-shirt, and walkers who attend our walk in Boston will be entered in our raffle to win some amazing prizes from Brooks Running and other local businesses. Click here to learn how.
  3. Join us in Boston on June 8, 2013, as we take 1 Million+ Steps for OCD Awareness!
Take a step, and be part of #1Million4OCD.
P.S. Don’t forget to tell us how far you are walking! Use the hashtag #1Million4OCD on Twitter to let us know just how far you have gone.
