This summer, the IOCDF will put on its 25th Annual OCD Conference – this means that we have been doing this for a quarter of a century! Whether you have been with us since the beginning or this will be your first time attending, we are excited to have you join us in Washington, DC this July. We challenge ourselves to continue to provide fresh content for attendees every summer, and this year will be no different. Read on for more information about some of the new additions and highlights of the Annual OCD Conference in 2018.
The New Breathing Room!
Ever wished you had a quiet place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Conference weekend? This year, we are proud to provide you that space! New in 2018, the Breathing Room will be a relaxing oasis throughout the duration of Conference. It will host daily morning support and stretch groups, in addition to intermittent mindfulness and yoga activities. When there is nothing scheduled, the Breathing Room will be a place where attendees can go to relax in a quiet atmosphere with comfortable seating. The Breathing Room is sponsored by PCH Treatment Center.
Evening Activities:
We are pumping up the volume on our evening activities this year, starting right out of the gate on Thursday night. Make sure to check in to the Conference early enough to start your weekend off with ERP Boot Camp! Other new offerings throughout the weekend include learning a way to share your story with the Secret Illness, the LGBTQIA+ All Inclusive Meet-up at a nearby park, the chance to perform for the entire community at Open Mic, and special performances that include a comedy about Hoarding Disorder and a collection of 6 individual stories about OCD. Of course, we will continue to offer popular favorites such as the Road to Recovery Tour, the Saturday Night Social, and 40+ support groups for a wide variety of topics and populations.
Youth Programming:
We will again be bringing back our revamped youth programming, with offerings for elementary-aged kids, middle schoolers, and high school-aged teens. In addition to the usual days of fun, learning, and support, this year we will be taking advantage of the Conference’s proximity to the Smithsonian Zoo by offering a nighttime activity at the Smithsonian Zoo for youth of all ages!
Additional Highlights:
- We will also continue to offer mini-series about Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and the co-occurrence of OCD/Substance Use Disorder (SUD)
- The Annual Hoarding Meeting will celebrate its 5th year, with 2 full days of workshops and a pre-conference professional training session.
- The 3rd year of the Bilingual Program/Programa Bilingüe on Saturday will again provide a full day of fully integrated bilingual sessions (Spanish-English), and a Spanish-language support group in the evening.
With so many new and exciting things on tap for this summer, we can’t wait to welcome you to Washington, D.C! If you have any questions about the above or anything else Conference-related, you can reach us by phone at 617-973-5801 or by email at conference@iocdf.org.
