AMK Counseling is a Chicago-based practice with a dedicated specialty for treatment of OCD, phobias, BFRBs, and complex anxiety. We provide specialized, evidence-based care for anxiety-related conditions, our practice focuses on helping individuals interupt cycles of intrusive thoughts, avoidance, and compulsive behaviors.
Our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches for OCD and anxiety disorders, including ERP, I-CBT, ACT, and CBT (when appropriate). We work with individuals experiencing a range of OCD presentations and/or phobias, as well as related anxiety concerns such as panic, health anxiety, BFRBs and generalized anxiety. Therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client’s goals and experiences.
AMK Counseling provides outpatient therapy for children, adolescents and adults. We offer both in-person sessions and telehealth services , allowing clients to access specialized treatment with flexibility. Our approach emphasizes building practical skills to tolerate uncertainty, interupt obsessive thought patterns, reduce compulsions and avoidance, and regain confidence in daily life.
Our focus on complex and treatment-resistant anxiety presentations sets us apart from other practices. We work to ensure that the skills learned in therapy translate into meaningful, lasting change.
Our goal is not only symptom relief, but helping clients develop the tools and resilience needed to maintain long-term progress.
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders:
We provide integrated treatment for co-occurring conditions alongside Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It is not uncommon for clients struggling with OCD to also experience Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, other anxiety disorders, mood disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder, or tic-related conditions including Tourette Syndrome. This is why our therapists have large, evidence-based toolboxes and draw from a broad range of modalities, including ERP, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, I-CBT, IFS, and psychodynamic approaches. Treatment prioritizes evidence-based care for OCD while also addressing attention, mood, and emotional regulation needs so clients can fully engage in therapy and apply skills in daily life.
Diversity Statement
AMK is deeply committed to cultural competence and inclusion. This is why we started our nonprofit, the Infinite Possibilities Program. IPP started as part of AMK Counseling’s mission in 2011 and officially applied for and obtained the 501c3 status in 2023. Since then, IPP has expanded access to compassionate, holistic counseling services for communities historically excluded from private practice services. We exist to challenge inequitable systems, meet people where they are, and foster lasting well-being, resilience, and community strength. Visit www.chicagoipp.org to learn more.
DEIB is at the heart of everything we do at our practice. From monthly team meetings and ongoing trainings to affinity groups and everyday culture, we prioritize creating a welcoming, inclusive environment. Our clinicians are trained to work thoughtfully with diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+, racial, ethnic, and religious minorities. They bring cultural awareness into evidence-based treatments for OCD, anxiety, and co-occurring conditions, ensuring care is respectful, individualized, and supportive. Every client (and therapist) can expect to feel seen, heard, and safe throughout their journey with us.
At AMK Counseling and Chicago IPP, we are proud to serve a richly diverse community, both in Chicago and online. Our clients come from many racial, ethnic, cultural, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds, and we strive to make every person feel truly seen and valued. DEIB principles guide everything we do, from team trainings to daily clinical practice, so that evidence-based care for OCD, anxiety, and co-occurring conditions is delivered with compassion, understanding, and respect. Our goal is to create a space where every client feels safe, supported, and empowered on their journey toward empowerment.
